Ireland is famous for its genuine pubs with their unique atmosphere, music and craic. Howth's pubs can certainly claim to have this in abundance.
Pubs are open from 10.30 in the morning to 11.30 at night with late opening Friday and Saturday til 12.30. Some bars also have later licences for music events.
The best way to explore the local hostelries is to take a stroll through the village and see for yourself. Drop in for a pint o' the blackstuff and a chat. Locals are always willing to share their knowledge and to help out strangers from near and far. Just ask. Look out for information about music nights and events posted up or just ask the bartender.
The Bloody Stream at Howth Dart station has a heated outdoor area perfect for those long afternoons and a restaurant specialising in local seafood.
The recently restored Findlater building overlooking the harbour is now home to The Findlater Bar with its excellent food and Skyy Bar upstairs.
For the traditional Irish music fan The Top House beside Howth Church has a trad sessiún at no charge on Thursday night while next door at Krugers Lounge you can get top quality pub grub at reasonable prices.
On the waterfront facing Howth yacht Club The Waterside Bar & Lounge is worth a visit.
Further up the hill at Howth Summit is the legendary Summit Inn with its beer garden and majestic views up the northern coast a must for all visitors.
Pool tables can be found in The Top House and The Summit Inn.
