The highlight of the Howth event calendar is undoubtedly The Howth Peninsula Festival. Now in its 8th year the festival continues to go from strength to strength and attracts more revellers young and old as each year passes. The festival will take place over two days; Saturday 30th June and Sunday 1st July and will include something for everyone.
Entertainment will be the order of the day at this summer's festival, with a focus on food, fun, music, food and celebration!
Howth has a long association with the sea and Howth has maintained it’s position as the largest fishing port on the East Coast. Dubliners have always come to Howth to holiday, walk and “take the air”. As the old slogan used to say Howth - for Health and Heather . Thursday is still the busiest day of the week on the Pier when Dubliners come to buy fish for Friday – Tradition dies hard!
A 'Taste of Howth'
People come from near and far to dine in the restaurants and bars which line the waterfront and the steep winding streets of the old Howth village. Howth’s restaurants and bars have come together to present a selection of their specialities in a 'Taste of Howth'. Naturally Fish leads the way – Smoked Irish Salmon, Howth Herring, local Crab, Fish Chowders and Prawn Bisque, Seafood Terrines and Pates and in demonstrating how the world gets smaller and cuisine is shared, Seafood Biryani and Paella. The event takes place on the waterfront at the harbour beneath a large marquee. Admission is €20 at the door.
