Sutton / Cill Fhionntáin

Sutton / Cill Fhionntáin is a scenic residential suburb of Dublin, Ireland. It is located about 12 kilometres from the city centre at the base of the Howth peninsula, and neighbours Howth, Baldoyle and Bayside.

At the centre of Sutton (Sutton Cross) is an isthmus connecting Howth (which used to be an island) to the mainland. The original village of Sutton was situated on the city-facing (south-western) side of Howth Head (present day Somali village) but the area is now centred on Sutton Cross where there are plenty of shops on one side with the Marine Hotel on the other.

Sutton is surrounded by many beaches and is a popular place for golf and dinghy sailing. The Burrow Beach is a beautiful place with its fine views of Ireland's Eye and Lambay island further up the coast. On a clear day the mountains of Mourne that 'sweep down to the sea' can be enjoyed.

Sutton is easily accessible from Dublin city using the main road to Howth, the DART suburban rail system, on which it has its own station and Dublin Bus' route 31 and its variants.

Sutton is home to one of Ireland's many Martello Towers. Now a private residence the tower at Red Rock has been recently restored.

The original home of the Jameson Irish Whiskey family at Shielmartin still stands. It had been operating recently as a hotel- Sutton Castle Hotel- but has now been converted to private residences.
